Business Wire, Nov 16, 1994
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 16, 1994--Sun Microsystems' SPARC Technology Business (STB) division today announced the appointment of Art Swift (36) to the position of vice president of marketing.
"Art has an impressive track record and experience base that makes him a key addition to the SPARC management team," said Chet Silvestri, president of SPARC Technology Business. "Art's strengths in high-performance RISC marketing and sales complement our recently introduced UltraSPARC family. Additionally, his broad semiconductor marketing experience will be leveraged to accelerate the proliferation of SPARC technology worldwide."
"SPARC technology is poised for a real comeback in terms of performance and business leadership -- even beyond the market leadership that it already enjoys," noted Swift. "It's really the only processor architecture in the industry able to deliver true network processing -- architectural performance and open, commercial technology for the enterprise. SPARC offers an unparalleled development environment with advanced operating system support and most importantly, third-party applications. STB is tasked with delivering this network processing technology throughout the industry and we have the team, the technology and the power to do it."
Swift brings to his new post 14 years of sales and marketing experience in the semiconductor industry. Prior to joining STB, he was with Digital Equipment Corporation, most recently serving as the Semiconductor Business Unit's vice president of marketing and sales. Swift received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from Pennsylvania State University.
SPARC Technology Business, a division of Sun Microsystems, Inc., was formed in April 1993 to develop, design and distribute SPARC technologies and products worldwide. STB's portfolio includes microprocessors, chipsets, modules, boards, technology licenses, silicon and system packages and consulting services. Currently, STB has more than 500 employees working with product development, engineering, marketing and worldwide sales and support. -0-
