Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. Acquires Forsyth Quarry Of Buckhorn Minerals, Inc

RALEIGH, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--November 17, 1994--Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. (NYSE:MLM) today announced that it has purchased a quarry located near Cumming, Georgia, from Buckhorn Minerals, Inc.
This quarry, which will have an annual capacity of approximately 500,000 tons, produces quartzite sand used in asphalt and concrete for the North Atlanta market area. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
According to Stephen P. Zelnak, Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer of Martin Marietta Materials, "The purchase of the Buckhorn sand operation increases our presence in the high-growth area north of Atlanta. It will enable Martin Marietta Materials to serve our customer base with a wider range of products."
Martin Marietta Materials is the nation's third largest producer of construction aggregates and a leading producer of magnesia-based chemical and refractory products used in a wide variety of industries.
