Electronic Arts ships Pentium-processor enhanced computer games for the Christmas season; Faster game play, exceptional graphics
Business Wire, Nov 22, 1994
SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 22, 1994--Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:ERTS), a leading international interactive entertainment company, Tuesday announced that it has enhanced four of its popular computer games to take advantage of the power of Intel's Pentium processor.
The result is stunning graphics and speed of game play that approaches high-end dedicated game machines. The products will reach retail outlets in time for Christmas and are showcased in Intel's current television and print advertising for the Pentium processor.
The games, PGA TOUR Golf, Sesame Street: Numbers, U.S. Navy Fighters, and Magic Carpet, will feature a distinctive sticker on the packaging indicating that upgraded capabilities are available when using a Pentium processor.
The game software automatically recognizes the computer's processor type and adjusts the play accordingly. While the products will run on PCs without a Pentium chip, the advanced performance of the new processor provides added speed and realism to the game play, and in some cases, capabilities accessible only with a Pentium chip.
For example, using the Pentium processor with PGA TOUR Golf software, players get multiple views of golfers on a single shot with the TV-style "picture in a picture" feature.
"In late 1993, we began working with Intel to incorporate additional capabilities into the computer games that would take advantage of the advanced technology available in the Pentium processor," stated Bing Gordon, executive vice president responsible for Electronic Arts' product development studios.
"The Pentium processor has provided the needed boost that will significantly increase the speed of game play and provide a more realistic gaming experience for our customers."
