Garth Brooks to release greatest hits package
Business Wire, Nov 29, 1994
NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 29, 1994--Garth Brooks and EMI Records Group North America are proud to announce the release of GARTH BROOKS--THE HITS, a collection of eighteen singles spanning Brooks' career from 1989 to the present.
The package, set to hit stores on December 13, will only be available for a limited time. Included will be the raucous "Friends in Low Places," the tender ballad "If Tomorrow Never Comes," Brooks' debut single, "Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)," and his signature song, "The Dance."
Charles Koppelman, chairman and chief executive officer of EMI Records Group North America, commented, "This is not a typical greatest hits collection in that Garth's career is only beginning. But after only five years, he has amassed a CD-full of No. 1 hits. We felt that this collection was the best way to pay homage to an artist who will probably fill another CD with No. 1 hits very soon."
The eighteen-song collection, with a suggested retail price of $15.98, offers a tremendous value to consumers who frequently pay that amount for only ten songs.
The Grammy-winning Brooks was named as BILLBOARD'S Top Country Artist for four years, and its Top Pop Artist for three years. He's been the Academy of Country Music's Entertainer of the Year for the past four years, and the Country Music Association's Entertainer of the Year for two years in a row. His second Liberty Records release, NO FENCES, has sold 11 million units, earning it the title as the biggest selling country album of all time. It is currently tied with THE BODYGUARD soundtrack as the biggest selling album of the '90s in the United States. Brooks' total domestic album sales are in excess of 42 million. Since July 1993 he has performed in front of over 1.65 million people on his first World Tour, which included shows in the United States, Canada, England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, Denmark, The Netherlands, New Zealand and Australia.
