HP and Lotus Announce Joint Lotus Notes Consulting and Systems Integration Initiative

Business Wire, Nov 8, 1994

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 8, 1994--Hewlett-Packard Co. and Lotus Development Corp. today announced a worldwide alliance between HP Professional Services Organization (PSO) and Lotus Consulting Services Group (CSG). PSO and CSG will work together to provide complete client/server solutions through consulting, education and systems integration services to clients choosing to implement business solutions based upon Lotus Notes running on HP platforms. This initiative is part of a growing relationship between the two companies.

The PSO/CSG teaming is designed to enable clients to achieve the maximum benefits from groupware computing. By pooling resources, the two groups can establish offerings that combine their complementary skills and services. Lotus CSG provides expertise and insight into the application of workgroup computing to transform businesses and their processes. HP PSO brings worldwide expertise and experience in the application of large-scale, open systems architectures and client/server technologies. This combination means that the radical improvements made possible by workgroup computing can now be realized enterprise-wide, and with reduced cost of ownership and mission-critical reliability.

"Combining the expertise of these two service organizations provides Lotus Notes customers with a solution that helps them gain the greatest possible advantage from the power of Notes and the scalability of the HP-UX platform," said Jim Manzi, president and CEO of Lotus Development Corporation.

"This is an innovative relationship between two world class consulting organizations," said Willem (Wim) P. Roelandts, senior vice president of HP's Computer Systems Organization. "There is no other combination of consulting and systems integration that can provide the level of expertise for creating business solutions incorporating Lotus Notes in an enterprise, client/server environment. Together, we provide companies with a level and scale of services not previously available."

Growing Demand for Services

The demand for enterprise services from large, multinational companies that have made a decision to embrace the enabling technology of the Lotus Notes paradigm requires a response that incorporates the needs of complex environments. This includes full-scale integration services that provide an assessment of the current environment, a design for a new environment, and a plan to deploy Lotus Notes in that new environment, including the organization change management components.

Large, global companies are looking for relationships with service organizations who can provide the worldwide scope and future stability needed to ensure the success of their enterprise-wide business solutions based on Lotus Notes implementations.

"We are working with Lotus' CSG because our customers look to us for assistance in implementing their strategic client/server applications," said John D. Ainsworth, product manager for HP's Lotus Notes consulting business. "This is a strategic advantage in helping clients move to enterprise solutions that include Lotus Notes."

"The impact of Lotus Notes on the market has created a growing need for a complete solution from integration with current systems, through development of Notes solutions, to on-going worldwide support," said Robert P. Anderson, managing director of strategic accounts for CSG. "By PSO and CSG working together, clients will be able to benefit from a complete continuum of integration, development, training, and support services."

Team Solutions

HP and Lotus plan to deliver services from a core team of consultants from PSO and CSG. The teams will leverage PSO expertise in client/server IT architecture design, messaging, networking and systems management, HP-UX expertise, enterprise-wide networking and mail integration as well as extensive experience with open systems, client/server education and training. CSG plans to provide expertise in Lotus Notes-related consulting, including business process innovation in the workgroup computing arena, collaborative application development and large-scale, worldwide deployment planning. In addition, CSG plans to provide comprehensive training and education services ranging from technical product training to transformation management training which addresses the organizational and cultural changes inherent in workgroup computing.
