National Semiconductor InfoMover PCMCIA Ethernet network adapter card excels in independent testing; Tolly Group test shows National's strong performance in Novell NetWare environment

Business Wire, Nov 8, 1994

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 8, 1994--National Semiconductor Tuesday announced its participation in an independent performance test of leading PCMCIA Ethernet network interface cards, the results of which were announced this week by The Tolly Group, a strategic consulting and independent testing organization.

National's award-winning InfoMover NE4100 PCMCIA Ethernet adapter card was tested along with cards from other premier network interface card vendors that included 3Com and IBM. According to Tolly Group results, National outperformed the other PCMCIA Ethernet adapter cards in a standard Novell NetWare environment. Specifically, for Open Data-link Interface (ODI) Ethernet drivers, National's card performed fastest at both maximum frame size (1514 bytes) with packet burst enabled and with small packet sizes (64 bytes). Burst mode and small packet size are two of the more common traffic conditions on today's networks.

"National's InfoMover PCMCIA card showed solid performance across the entire range of frame sizes tested and outperformed the other cards tested under burst-mode and small packet size traffic conditions," said Kevin Tolly, president of The Tolly Group.

"This kind of independent testing helps customers to make informed purchasing decisions," said Jim Cansler, National's vice president of worldwide system sales and marketing. "Our participation and impressive results in The Tolly Group test further emphasizes National's commitment and strength as a top-tier PCMCIA Ethernet networking card supplier," Cansler added.

A major silicon provider, National's Ethernet networking chip technology is designed into more than 60% of the world's Ethernet cards. National leverages this technology strength to provide end users with premium products that include a lifetime warranty, full support and offer the best price/performance value on the market. National's InfoMover NE4100 adapter lists for $213 in single quantities.

In addition to lifetime warranty on all of its InfoMover adapter cards, the company provides toll-free technical and on-line bulletin board support. National's Customer Response Center located in Arlington, Texas is staffed with a team of Novell Certified NetWare Engineers to support end users and resellers. National is also part of Novell's Technical Support Alliance program as well as its "Yes" program as all InfoMover cards are "NetWare Ready."
