Thomson Software Products signs VAR agreement with Atria Software Inc.; company to integrate and distribute its Ada development environments with Atria ClearCase configuration management products

Business Wire, April 10, 1995

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 10, 1995--Thomson Software Products (formerly Alsys) Monday announced it has signed a Value-Added Reseller (VAR) agreement with Atria Software Inc. to integrate and distribute its Ada development environments with Atria's ClearCase and ClearCase MultiSite configuration management products.

The VAR agreement enables Thomson Software Products to provide change control, management and maintenance products that are tightly coupled with its powerful UNIX-based Ada development environments to help provide complete lifecycle support for Ada applications development.

``Integration with Atria's ClearCase configuration management products allows us to provide a highly integrated, single-source solution to meet the increasing demands of mission-critical, business-critical and safety-critical Ada applications developers,'' said Jacques Brygier, director of Ada product marketing.

``This agreement represents one of many we are actively pursuing with premier third-party tool vendors to provide additional development capabilities for our users. Our goal is to offer highly integrated technologies that support today's distributed network, while helping development teams work more effectively and efficiently together.''

ClearCase is a powerful configuration management tool which provides version control, build management, workspace management and process control capabilities for UNIX-based environments. It helps software engineers and managers store, manage and access software products and components as they evolve during development.

ClearCase provides transparent access to versioned objects via a standard UNIX file system interface. Developers, therefore, continue to work in their existing environment and toolset without having to adjust their workstyles or patterns.

ClearCase MultiSite is an option that supports geographically dispersed projects. This option allows distributed development teams to access, develop, integrate and update software across multiple locations.

``Thomson Software Products has a long, highly regarded heritage in the Ada-based software development tools market,'' said Robert Parker, vice president of marketing, Atria Software. ``By integrating ClearCase products with AdaWorld and ObjectAda, Ada-based development teams will benefit from scalable, reliable and comprehensive SCM.''

``This partnership reflects Atria's distribution strategy to work with leaders in complementary niche markets where SCM is an important requirement. We believe the Ada market will benefit from the integration of our products,'' added Parker.

Integration with Ada Development Environments

Thomson Software Products will perform the integration of ClearCase and ClearCase MultiSite products with the AdaWorld and ObjectAda development environments to enable the interoperability between the products. ObjectAda is a new environment based on Ada 95, the new Ada language standard which incorporates Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) capabilities.

AdaWorld is a complete environment for both native and cross-target Ada applications development. In addition to providing validated, optimizing Ada compilers, both ObjectAda and AdaWorld products include user-friendly OSF/Motif graphical user interfaces and a full complement of productivity tools, including an efficient multi- library system, source-level debugger, multi-threading support, performance analyzer, text editor, on-line help and complete user documentation.

Maintenance, upgrades and customer support for the integrated products will be provided directly by Thomson Software Products. The first release of Thomson Software Products Ada environments integrated with ClearCase will be for Hewlett-Packard UNIX-based workstations and servers, with first customer shipments expected in second quarter 1995.

U.S.-based pricing for the integrated ClearCase product will be $4,000 for a single-user license. Thomson Software Products will port this technology to Sun and IBM RS6000 systems for shipment later in 1995.
