Hitachi Announces SyncWare Agents for Lotus Notes and Novell GroupWise; Directory synchronization product now supports most popular Windows-based E-mail packages

Business Wire, April 20, 1995

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 20, 1995--Hitachi today announced two new additions to its SyncWare product line at the E-Mail World Conference and Exposition (Booth 112) being held here today through April 21.

SyncWare is the multi-platform software solution for enterprise E-mail directory synchronization.

The two new products, Agent@Notes and Agent@GroupWise, synchronize the E-mail address directories of Lotus Notes and Novell GroupWise with those of other popular LAN and legacy based E-mail systems such as cc:Mail, Microsoft Mail, OfficeVision, QuickMail, and UNIX sendmail.

How it Works

SyncWare is a software product based on a Server/Agent model. SyncWare Agents are installed on each E-mail system; the SyncWare Server is installed on a UNIX workstation. Each Agent monitors address changes in the local E-mail directory. At a predetermined time -- usually during off-hours -- the Agents send address changes to the SyncWare Server. The Server then propagates these changes to all the Agents on the network, thereby updating each E-mail system's directory with the most current user information.

"With SyncWare, we're providing the tools to make the incredibly complex integration of enterprise directories manageable," said Hitachi Vice President Dave Toth.

Both E-mail administrators and users benefit from SyncWare's automatic approach. Administrators don't have to manually update directories, saving enormous time and they don't need to buy the expensive hardware required by other directory synchronization products, saving significant cost. E-mail users benefit because both local and remote E-mail addresses are displayed in the format of their native E-mail application.

SyncWare may be customized to meet a variety of needs. "If you're an administrator who's tired of manually updating E-mail addresses or tracking down bounced E-mail, SyncWare is an invaluable tool. You can now automatically synchronize the addresses of the most popular Windows-based mail packages, as well as QuickMail for the Macintosh, SMTP for UNIX, and legacy systems. With SyncWare, you set it, forget it, and get on with your work. Every organization can benefit from SyncWare," said Toth.

Pricing and Availability

The Agent@Notes and Agent@GroupWise will be available in Q2 1995; Agents are priced at $1,995. Servers begin at $4,995. Interested customers may call 408/986-9770 for more information.

Hitachi provides SyncWare Agents for cc:Mail, GroupWise, Lotus Notes, MHS, Microsoft Mail, OfficeVision for VM, Office Vision for MVS, QuickMail, and SMTP. The SyncWare Server and the Agent@SMTP are available on SunOS, Solaris, and HP-UX platforms. SyncWare is designed, developed, and marketed by Hitachi's Network Products Group (NPG). NPG's mission is to create standards-based products that enhance the usability and value of dissimilar networks, applications, and messaging environments.
