Business Wire, April 28, 1995
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 28, 1995--Sanwa Bank California employees in both Los Angeles and San Francisco will spend Saturday, April 29, working as volunteers to renovate the homes of low-income, elderly and disabled homeowners as part of the national "Christmas in April" program.
They will be supported in their efforts through the bank's donation of $5,000.
In the San Francisco Bay Area, 30 Sanwa Bank volunteers will be among thousands who will assist in the renovation of homes and non-profit facilities. Likewise in Los Angeles County, another 30 volunteers from Sanwa will assist in the renovation of a residence in Monterey Park. Nationwide, "Christmas in April" organizers estimate more than 300,000 volunteers will turn out on Saturday to take part in the program.
Founded in 1989, the community-based program is dedicated to helping low-income, elderly and disabled people across the nation live in warmth, safety and decency through volunteer repair and renovation of owner-occupied homes and non-profit facilities that benefit underserved populations.
"Our employees' support of the communities in which they live and work is something we at Sanwa Bank California actively support both philosophically and financially throughout the state," said Patricia Smith, Sanwa's senior vice president of corporate affairs. "We want to thank all of our volunteers for giving of their time and skills to help those less fortunate."
Sanwa Bank California is the state's fifth-largest bank, with $8 billion in assets and more than 100 offices offering a full range of personal and banking services.
