EPSON announces new ultra-small footprint scanner for PC platform; Text Enhancement Technology and Auto-Page Segmentation bring a new level of OCR accuracy and communications efficiency to the desktop

Business Wire, April 3, 1995

TORRANCE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 3, 1995--An ultra-small footprint scanner for business professionals that brings new levels of accuracy and ease of use to desktop PC document scanners was announced Monday by EPSON.

Offering a complete office automation solution for easy capture, storage and movement of office documents, the new EPSON Personal Document Station, measuring 2.6" in height x 12.3" in length x 9.2" in width, contains Text Enhancement Technology and Auto-Page Segmentation for the most accurate OCR and image scans available.

``The Personal Document Station is for the general office and home office user who requires the most efficient communications and organization solution,'' said Jim Sutton, product manager, scanners, EPSON.

The EPSON Personal Document Station is an 8-bit gray scale scanner with 300 dpi optical resolution. The Personal Document Station's Text Enhancement Technology (TET) and Auto-Page Segmentation features, not found in any other scanner in its category, ensure the highest degree of scanning quality and accuracy.

Auto-Page Segmentation automatically separates text from images when both are scanned from a single page, providing simultaneous gray scale image scans and black and white text scans. Text Enhancement Technology (TET) provides even greater OCR accuracy by removing background colors and miscellaneous dots sometimes found on faxed documents.

The 4 page-per-minute EPSON Personal Document Station comes equipped with a 10-page input tray that folds into the scanner's side when not in use. A business card adapter capable of holding three cards is also included.

The EPSON Personal Document Station for the PC is packaged with the Xerox Personal Document Management Suite and a TWAIN driver. A bi-directional interface board and cable are included as well.

The Personal Document Station for the PC, which will be available on May 15, carries a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $499. The system carries a one-year warranty, extendable to two years by submitting a completed product registration and warranty card.

The EPSON Personal Document Station and all EPSON products are supported through the EPSON Connection, the company's toll-free customer support and technical assistance line. For more information, call 800/289-3776, ext. 3000 (800/BUYEPSON, ext. 3000).
