Business Wire, April 4, 1995
HANOVER, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 4, 1995-- Paul Danos, senior associate dean and Arthur Andersen and Company Professor of Accounting at the University of Michigan Business School, has been appointed the ninth dean of the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College.
Announcing the appointment today, Dartmouth President James O. Freedman said, "I am delighted that Paul Danos will be the next dean of the Tuck School. We anticipate that he will provide the vigorous leadership required of one of the nation's leading business schools."
Danos, who will begin as Tuck School dean in July, 1995, said on accepting the position: "I am highly honored by this appointment. The Tuck School is among the world's great management education institutions, with the longest tradition of excellence. I intend to work with the faculty, staff, alumni, and students to take it to new levels of achievement. We will excel in research, teaching, and executive education offerings and will reach out both from within and outside the College. We will also partner with the world's businesses; all of these efforts will enrich our students' education. I am delighted to be joining the Tuck faculty and am looking forward to working together in the years ahead."
Danos has been senior associate dean at the University of Michigan Business School since 1993. Prior to that, he served as Associate Dean for degree programs from 1991-93 and was Chair of the Accounting Department from 1984-91. He has been a member of the Michigan faculty since 1974. Danos also worked as accountant in charge of the Chemical Division at Freeport Minerals Company in New Orleans from 1964-70. He received a Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Texas in 1974 and earned an MBA and BS in Accounting, both from the University of New Orleans.
As senior associate dean, Danos has been highly regarded for his leadership in the reform effort that brought about a range of innovations in Michigan's MBA curriculum, in creating partnerships with global companies for distance education, and for the use of technology in the classroom and in administration.
He is currently responsible for all faculty matters at Michigan's business school, the MBA, BBA, and MAcc programs, the Office of Admissions and Student Services, the Office of Career Development, Computing Services, Kresge Library, Research Support, and International Affairs. Danos is also currently chair of the MBA Review Team at Michigan, which is responsible for the design and implementation of the MBA restructuring initiatives.
His most recent book, Introduction to Financial Accounting (second edition, Irwin, 1994) is a widely-used text in American business schools. Danos has also published numerous scholarly articles, several research monographs, and has served on the editorial boards of Advances in Accounting and The Accounting Review. He is a member of The American Accounting Association and the AICPA. His current research focuses on the economics of auditing and how audit firms compete, the philosophy of science, and new models of business-school education.
A native of New Orleans, Danos is married to Mary Ellen Danos; they have two children, Amanda and Melissa.
Former Tuck dean, Colin Blaydon, has served as interim dean since Edward J. Fox, who had been Dean since 1990, stepped down last summer.
Founded in 1900, The Amos Tuck School of Business Administration is the first graduate school of management in the world and the only top US business school that offers the MBA degree exclusively. The Tuck faculty is widely recognized for its combination of teaching and scholarly excellence. Tuck School was rated number six in the nation in US.
