Business Wire, August 14, 1995
MARLBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 14, 1995--In a significant product direction announcement, Sequoia Systems, Inc. (SEQS:Nasdaq) today announced that it has begun the introduction of a new line of enterprise servers using Intel processors, a departure from its traditional product line of Motorola processors. This new computer family is expected to significantly expand sales of Sequoia's enterprise servers.
Today, Sequoia introduced the first in this new family of products, the Sequoia Enterprise Server (SES) models 100 and 110, which are aimed at the low-end of the enterprise server business.
Both the model 100 and 110 are highly reliable computers based on the Pentium processor and designed for applications using the Pick database environment. The systems will be sold through a third-party channel of qualified distributors and dealers. These models will run SEQUOIApro, a native Pick-based operating environment tailored to handle a large number of users and provide extremely high performance. These products are available immediately, with pricing beginning under $8,000.
"Sequoia's Enterprise Servers are a significant new thrust in Sequoia's traditional product line," said Bill Gould, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sequoia's Enterprise Systems Business. "For the first time we are meeting the low-end needs of users in a distributed computing environment. It's a strategy that we believe will revitalize our product sales and gain us a larger share of the enterprise server market."
According to Gould, the Sequoia Enterprise Servers will offer a number of competitive advantages. "These new systems contain state-of-the-art components, provide extremely high reliability, and are able to run enterprise-wide computing environments. Most importantly, these products are the first step in a planned series of announcements into next year, with increasing degrees of fault-tolerant functionality and open systems capabilities," he said.
Sequoia Systems, Inc. provides solutions for on-line transaction processing and other interactive applications in which system availability, fast response times and data integrity are critical. As a leading supplier of ruggedized, mission-critical computers from the desktop to the mainframe, Sequoia and its subsidiary, Texas Microsystems, Inc. address expanding market requirements for greater system availability. The company also supplies Intel-based computer cards, chassis and components, and SPARC-based products, which are often embedded in other systems. Professional services and maintenance support are provided to the company's worldwide customer base. Sequoia's (SEQS) common stock is traded on Nasdaq.
