FISERV, INC. to acquire Document Management Services division from ALLTEL Information Services, Inc.; Fiserv to gain item processing facilities in California and New Jersey

Business Wire, August 21, 1995

MILWAUKEE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 21, 1995--FISERV, INC. (NASDAQ:FISV) announced today that it has signed an agreement to acquire the Document Management Services (DMS) division of ALLTEL Information Services, Inc. (formerly Systematics Information Services, Inc.). DMS, a third-party check processing provider to the financial industry, has item processing facilities in California and New Jersey. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

``The addition of the people and resources at Document Management Services will enhance the Fiserv national network of item processing services, and add a new dimension in IBM-based technology,'' said George D. Dalton, Fiserv Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. ``The DMS organization will bring a strong history of IBM-based document processing to the Fiserv network on the West Coast, greatly enhancing our offerings of check remittance services nationwide. We welcome the opportunity to complement our extensive Unisys-based offerings with the IBM technology and operations experience of DMS.''

DMS currently provides depository, inclearing, statement rendition and lockbox services to more than 200 banks and savings institutions. The company includes DMS-West (IBM-based platform), with processing facilities in Alameda, Walnut and Los Angeles, Calif., and DMS-East (Unisys-based platform), with processing facilities in Piscataway, N.J. These DMS locations process over 370 million prime pass items annually and employ approximately 550 people.

``While ALLTEL Information Services has decided to exit the item processing business, we are pleased to have secured an arrangement by which our former DMS clients will continue to enjoy outstanding service,'' said Collins Andrews, President of the Financial Services Division of ALLTEL Information Services. ``In addition, we are pleased our employees will have jobs with a fine company.''

Dalton added, ``Volume-related services such as check processing benefit greatly from economies-of-scale; benefits which in turn can be passed on to our clients. Fiserv has built an extensive network of over 30 specialized item processing centers to take advantage of these economies, and we look forward to the enhancements the addition of the DMS team will bring.''

Fiserv is a leading provider of item processing services and check imaging technology, with the nation's largest check processing client base.
