CallXpress3® Unified Messaging To Be Fully Compatible with Windows 95® and Microsoft Mail Server; Applied Voice Technology Announces Two New Computer-Telephony Products for Microsoft Users
Business Wire, August 23, 1995
KIRKLAND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 23, 1995--Applied Voice Technology (AVT) today announced two new CallXpress3 unified-messaging applications that will be fully compatible with the Microsoft Windows 95 operating system and Microsoft Mail Server.
CallXpress3 users will be able to access all of their messages -- voice, fax, and e-mail -- from the graphical user interface (GUI) of the Windows 95 Exchange Inbox, or from the telephonic user interface (TUI) of CallXpress3.
CallXpress3's new client/server interface for Microsoft Exchange will make CallXpress3 voice and fax messages accessible using the Windows 95 Exchange Inbox. The new CallXpress3 E-Mail Access module for Microsoft Mail will convert text messages to speech or fax over the telephone.
CallXpress3 client/server software modules integrate a company's telephone system and local area network to provide unified messaging from the personal computer or the telephone. Unified messaging is a means whereby users can manage all kinds of messages from the terminal of choice, in one list, using a common set of message management tools.
"We are pleased that AVT is taking advantage of the universal inbox capabilities of the Microsoft Exchange inbox," said Greg Lobdell, group product manager in the business systems division at Microsoft. "CallXpress3 delivers on the vision of unified messaging, providing real benefit for customers looking for an integrated voice, fax and e-mail solution."
A true, unified-messaging solution must take into account the fact that users need the same convenient access to all of their messages, whether they are using their workstations or a telephone. CallXpress3 E-Mail Access is currently available for Lotus cc:Mail and, with this announcement, for Microsoft Mail. Support of Microsoft Mail will significantly expand the number of sites that can use this capability.
"AVT continues to be the leader in computer telephony and unified messaging," said Richard J. LaPorte, AVT chairman and CEO. "AVT was the first to market a true unified-messaging product line with the introduction of CallXpress3 Desktop for Windows(R) in 1993 and E-Mail Access for cc:Mail in 1994. AVT has the largest installed base of unified-messaging customers. These two new products are important because they will allow us to extend our unified-messaging strategy to millions of Microsoft customers, and represent our continued dedication to supporting the broadest variety of open systems-based products."
CallXpress3 is based on an industry-standard open architecture, which allows complete user flexibility. CallXpress3 applications for Windows(R) 3.x, Lotus Notes, OS/2 and Windows 95 can be mixed to integrate seamlessly on the same local area network. CallXpress3 integrates with any of over 200 different PBX systems, and supports the most popular local area network architectures.
CallXpress3's client/server interface for Microsoft Exchange and CallXpress3 E-Mail Access for Microsoft Mail will be available in fourth quarter, 1995. Users of Windows 95 and CallXpress3 will install the client/server interface modules, which provide message access and control through the Exchange Inbox. Users of Microsoft Mail and CallXpress3 will install CallXpress3 E-Mail Access for Microsoft Mail, and possibly a fax or text-to-speech card, in the computer-telephony server, depending on the capabilities desired.
Pricing for CallXpress3's client/server interface to Microsoft Exchange will be in the range of $25 to $250 per seat; E-Mail Access software is priced from $2,500 to $5,500, depending on the configuration.
