International Paper Confirms Sale Of California Envelope Companies

Purchase, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August 24, 1995--International Paper announced today the sale of San Francisco, Calif., based TransCoast Envelope and Glendale, Calif., based Transo Envelope. Both companies were sold to Tension Envelope Corporation, Kansas City, Missouri. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
Once this sale is complete, International Paper will no longer be in the envelope business. "This sale will serve the strategic interests of both International Paper and Tension Envelope," said Tension Envelope President and CEO William S. Berkley. Employees at the Transo and TransCoast operations will join the Tension organization. Both plants will continue to operate under their current names.
International Paper, headquartered in Purchase, N.Y., is a worldwide producer of printing papers, packaging and forest products. The company also operates specialty businesses and a broadly-based paper distribution network. International Paper has manufacturing operations in 28 countries and exports its products to more than 130 nations. International Paper employs approximately 1500 people in California.
