QUALCOMM signs CDMA subscriber equipment license agreement with Toshiba Corp

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 3, 1995--QUALCOMM Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM) Thursday announced that Toshiba Corp. has signed a multi-million dollar, royalty-bearing license agreement to use QUALCOMM's Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology.
The agreement allows Toshiba to manufacture and sell CDMA subscriber equipment for cellular, Personal Communications Services (PCS) and other wireless communications applications throughout North America.
''As a major Japanese manufacturer of high-quality electronics products, we expect Toshiba to be another important source of supply of low-cost, high-quality CDMA subscriber products to the North American cellular and PCS markets,'' said Dr. Irwin Mark Jacobs, chairman and chief executive officer of QUALCOMM.
''We look forward to working closely with Toshiba and are very pleased to include Toshiba as another CDMA licensee and supporter.''
With headquarters in San Diego, QUALCOMM develops, manufactures, markets, licenses and operates advanced communications systems and products based on its proprietary digital wireless technologies.
The company's primary product areas are the OmniTRACS system (a geostationary satellite-based, mobile communications system providing two-way data and position reporting services), CDMA wireless communications systems and products and, in conjunction with others, the development of the Globalstar low-earth-orbit (LEO) satellite communications system.
Other company products include Eudora electronic mail software, VLSI components and communications equipment and systems for government and commercial customers worldwide. -0-
