Business Wire, August 30, 1995
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 30, 1995--Delivering the most complete array of video display terminal "personalities," multi-host compatibility and crystal-clear overscan display, the new Wyse Technology WY-65 is the most advanced terminal ever built by the world's largest supplier. Wyse, which has sold more than seven million units since 1981, believes the WY-65 will further increase its market share by providing advanced display capabilities for the UNIX, AIX, SCO and multi-user DOS operating systems and IBM 3151, WY-60, DEC VT/320, and PCTerm terminal mode environments. The WY-65 also offers a vivid 94 Hz overscan display which enables full utilization of the terminal's viewing area while reducing screen flicker.
Available in early September, the WY-65 carries a manufacturer's suggested list price of $535, and the WY-65ES a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $565 and is available through Wyse distributors nationwide.
The WY-65 is an optimal solution that resolves many issues facing IS managers today. Many organizations are implementing multiple host computer networks that create challenges as IS departments seek to maximize hardware expenditures via terminals which can communicate in diverse computing environments. The WY-65 enables users to communicate with a wide range of hosts and, through it's multiple personalities, emulates virtually all terminal modes including IBM 3151. This makes the WY-65 ideal for use on either newly installed systems or legacy systems including RS6000 environments utilizing the AIX operating system. Additionally, the WY-65 is equipped with two serial ports providing communication rates up to 115.2 Kbaud and a parallel printer port to provide flexible, performance-oriented peripheral connectivity.
"We've designed the WY-65 to be the most flexible, yet the most advanced, terminal ever to reach the market," said Terry Eastham, vice president marketing, Wyse Technology. "Today's corporate computing environments utilize a very diverse blend of hosts and operating systems. In the WY-65, we've developed a terminal which overcomes the vast majority of hurdles to seamless integration and user productivity. This is the one terminal that will meet every need for a long time to come."
With a Windows-style set-up menu and User Preference Setup, the WY-65 is designed for rapid user familiarization process and increased productivity through easily changed user functions such as screen attributes. Wyse has also included its WyseWorks Desktop Utilities for further flexibility. A User Definable Action Bar provides application developers and IS managers the ability to customize menus and resulting actions to mesh with system, application or end user requirements.
A "Rest Timer" feature can be programmed to display a "rest" message at set intervals. The WY-65's 14-inch non-glare CRT improves viewing ease through a choice of green, amber or page white displays along with a tilt and swivel base and front mounted controls.
The WY-65 is also environmentally sound through compliance with domestic and international regulations for low emissions and low power consumption. In compliance with the U.S. government's EPA Energy Star Program, the WY-65 consumes less than 30 watts of power when the VDT is on but not in actual use. The WY-65 also complies with the recently instituted Nutek Power Management recommendations set forth by Swedish regulatory commissions and the CE Mark safety and emissions standards of the European Commonwealth. Swedish MPR standards for electromagnetic and low electrostatic emissions are also met on the ES model of the WY-65.
