Symantec to sponsor Windows 95 site on Internet Shopping Network; Symantec Will Use Leading Internet Mall to Showcase New Products
Business Wire, August 30, 1995
Shopping Network (ISN), the leading retailer on the Internet, today announced that its new Windows 95 shopping site will be sponsored by software manufacturer Symantec Corporation.
ISN's Windows 95 site is a special promotional location within the Internet Shopping Network featuring products that support Microsoft's new operating system for personal computers. In addition to Symantec, the site features Windows 95 products from other manufacturers. ISN's special Windows 95 site can be accessed at http://www.internet.net/?path=win95.
"The Windows 95 site is another example of ISN's commitment to cost-effective access to the most up-to-date offerings in computing and consumer products," said Bill Rollinson, ISN's vice president of marketing. Symantec will use the site to introduce Windows 95 versions of its key products, Norton Utilities, Norton Anti-Virus and Norton Navigator. Symantec's new Windows 95 compatible applications and utility software products have been designed to use the full capacities of Microsoft's new PC operating system.
In addition, Symantec's sponsorship banner found in the promotional site will be linked to a separate Symantec page within the ISN mall.
"Symantec is committed to developing innovative products, and distributing them in innovative ways to prospective customers," said Asa Orsino, director of direct marketing for Symantec Corp. "This new channel, supplementing our other channels of distribution, allows us to offer the Windows 95 versions of our flagship products to potential customers who like to use the Internet."
"ISN is proud to have Symantec's products as part of our Windows 95 section," added Rollinson. "Symantec offerings give our customers the excellent value they have come to expect from ISN, and their availability on our electronic shopping mall provides an attractive and efficient way to browse and shop electronically."
Symantec Corporation develops, markets and supports a complete line of application and system software products designed to enhance individual and workgroup productivity, as well as manage networked computing environments.
The Internet Shopping Network, a division of the billion-dollar cable television retailer, The Home Shopping Network, is the first large-scale enterprise to embrace the Internet as a new medium for conducting commerce worldwide. Launched in June 1993, ISN today offers more than 22,000 computer products from companies such as Lotus, Symantec and Microsoft; flowers from FTD; steak and lobster from Omaha Steaks International; gift items from Hammacher-Schlemmer; and other merchandise.
ISN employs the Netscape Commerce Server, a highly regarded Internet server that features server authentication, data encryption, data integrity, and user authorization, to ensure secure commerce over the Internet.
ISN's Internet address is http://shop.internet.net. The company can also be reached by e-mail at info@internet.net, or by calling 1-800-677-SHOP. -0- Note to editors: Norton Utilities, Norton Anti-Virus and Norton Navigator are registered trademarks of Symantec Corporation.
