Tandem Identifies Three New Partners For Its Worldwide Decision Support Initiative; Arbor Software, Carleton Corporation, and Information Advantage plan decision support alliances with Tandem
Business Wire, August 7, 1995
CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 7, 1995--Tandem Computers Incorporated today extended the solutions portfolio of the company's Decision Support Initiative by announcing plans to form three new business alliances.
In the past 2 years, the global Decision Support Initiative has grown to more than 30 decision support system (DSS) solutions providers and partners. The latest proposed partners to join -- Arbor Software, Carleton Corporation, and Information Advantage -- each provide specialized tools and applications to Tandem's fast-growing presence in the global decision support market.
Based in Sunnyvale, California, Arbor Software develops and markets multidimensional database software for business planning, analysis and management reporting applications. Arbor's products span a broad range of industries and business analysis applications such budgeting, forecasting, product profitability, customer profitability, sales analysis, manufacturing-mix analysis, and financial consolidation. Essbase's software modules include an SQL interface, an application program interface, currency conversion, an extended spreadsheet tool kit, and an SQL drill-through module. A link which directly integrates Arbor's Essbase with Tandem's family of massively parallel servers will be available this fall providing end users choice, flexibility, and the ease of use of Essbase's multidimensional capabilities.
Carleton Corporation, headquartered in Burlington, Massachusetts, develops and markets advanced data warehouse management software that helps organizations convert their day-to-day operational data into a strategic competitive advantage. Carleton's technology enables customers to maximize the full potential of predominant information system strategies, including data warehousing, client/server computing, and data migration. Carleton's Passport product automates the development and maintenance of data warehouses in either a client/server or mainframe environment. The Passport Meta Data Solution addresses both end user and technical requirements, allowing storage of both business-oriented and technical metadata.
In conjunction with Tandem's scalable Himalaya Servers and NonStop SQL/MP database products, Carleton's Passport provides a flexible solution to automated data warehouse updating from multiple operational legacy systems.
Based in Minnetonka, Minnesota, Information Advantage develops and markets DecisionSuite, a three-tiered relational OLAP business analysis solution for data warehouses and data marts. DecisionSuite allows everyone in the organization to make more informed decisions with sophisticated business analysis tools, an army of detect and alert agents, uninhibited sharing of "live" information for collaborative decision making, and a suite of personalized applications for executives, professionals and analysts. Operating in the Tandem server environment and accessing the Tandem NonStop SQL database, DecisionSuite provides true relational OLAP/multi- dimensional analysis, with scalability to hundreds of users and hundreds of gigabytes of data.
"As decision support and data mining continue to grow in significance, the recruitment of diverse solutions partners becomes essential to growth in the industry. Our planned alliances with Arbor, Carleton, and Information Advantage will play critical roles in the open-system, cross-industry capabilities encountered in today's decision support environments," said Chuck Buffum, director of Tandem's Decision Support business unit. "Tandem is entering and growing in markets with a suite of open-system applications that focus on targeted products and services. By aligning ourselves with strategic partners, Tandem can continue to drive the future of the DSS industry by offering specific products to specific people."
