Coherent Communications Joins Motorola Multimedia Cable TV Project
Business Wire, August 7, 1995
LEESBURG, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 7, 1995--Leading voice enhancement and echo cancellation specialist, Coherent Communications Systems of Leesburg, Virginia, has signed a multi-million dollar agreement with Motorola to provide echo cancellation technology for its CableComm system.
Under the terms of the agreement, Coherent's latest generation of echo canceller will be integrated into the CableComm product, offering cable operators a high performance hardware platform for the distribution of interactive services over the cable TV network. Users will be able to access high quality multimedia services, including telephony, videophone, and data services, via this cable-based information superhighway.
Motorola placed a high priority on the voice quality issue, as Mr. Morton Stern, VP and Director of Cable Telephone Products, explains: "Voice quality is of vital importance to the success of our system. We chose Coherent Communications Systems because of its superior echo cancellation technology, fast convergence and excellent stability. This allows our system to adapt quickly to network conditions, ensuring that voices sound clear right from the start of every call. Coherent is very focused on voice quality and understands our needs in the CableComm network. I believe it is the perfect matching of technologies"
The project involves an initial development period, with Coherent contracted to commence mainstream production of the customized canceller for Motorola in late 1995. President and Chief Operating Officer, David Powell, is confident of a long and successful partnership: "This agreement is of major strategic importance to Coherent, in line with our global policy of working in partnership with major system vendors and network operators. Motorola has chosen to work with Coherent on the basis of our track record for product excellence, innovative technology and ongoing support. We are delighted to be working them, sharing the same common concern on the voice quality issue, and are confident that the CableComm system will make a major impact on the market. Cable based systems are in their infancy, but should be a major growth area over the next few years. It will undoubtedly be a very exciting time for us all."
Coherent Communications Systems Corporation is a worldwide leader in state of the art voice enhancement technology, spanning echo cancellation platforms and associated network software. The company's products are used globally by major commercial telecommunications companies and network operators, including AT&T Wireless, Cellular One, British Telecom, Telemex, Deutsche Telekom, and France Telecom among the extensive list.
