Mexicana Airlines and Unisys sign long-term software and services contract
Business Wire, August 8, 1995
BLUE Bell, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 8, 1995--Unisys Corp. Tuesday announced that it has received a contract from Mexicana Airlines for software and services.
Under the five-year contract, Unisys will renew licenses for USAS passenger processing solutions, as well as operating system software and AIR/net communications software. Unisys will also provide comprehensive maintenance and support services for Mexicana's USAS software solutions and the Open 2200 enterprise servers on which the software runs.
The agreement further strengthens the relationship between Unisys and Mexicana Airlines, which returned to the Unisys USAS software environment after briefly switching to an IBM-based reservation system. Starting in October 1994, the airline converted back to USAS from the British Airways Booking System (BABS), which it had used for about five months.
Since the restoration of the USAS Reservation system, installed at 42 Mexican, U.S., Latin American and Caribbean airports, Mexicana has experienced 100 percent system availability. The airline servers 7.4 passengers annually.
The Unisys solutions support Mexicana Airlines' strategic priorities of growing revenue through superior customer service and enhancing profitability by streamlining business processes. USAS Reservations and Departure Control solutions perform vital passenger service functions on the aircraft and in the airport.
AIR/net communications software ensures the reliable exchange of information both within the airline and between multiple carriers through standard networking protocols connecting multivendor information systems.
As an information management company, Unisys acts as a solutions and systems integrator for business and government, complementing those integration skills with a full range of consulting and implementation services, information technology and vertical expertise.
The company's perspective extends beyond supplying technology to delivering comprehensive information management solutions. Further information is available through the Unisys home page on the World Wide Web: http://www.unisys.com. -0- Unisys is a registered trademark, and USAS and AIR/net are trademarks, of Unisys Corp.
