FTP Software Announces New 32-bit Development Kit for Cross Platform, Enterprise and Internet Applications; Also Offers Enhanced Development Tools with New PC/TCP SDK for DOS

Business Wire, Dec 1, 1995

ANDOVER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 1, 1995--FTP Software, Inc. yesterday announced OnNet(TM) SDK Version 4.0 for Windows, a new software development kit (SDK) for building enterprise and Internet networking applications for Windows 95, Windows NT and Windows 3.1.

OnNet SDK offers a 32-bit VxD kernel, 32-bit Windows Sockets APIs (application program interface) and 32-bit libraries. FTP Software also announced PC/TCP(R) Version 3.2 for DOS, a new version of its DOS-based SDK that features sample programs and application libraries.

These products let developers build custom network applications that conform to the most popular platform, the Internet protocol. The OnNet SDK features industry standard APIs for Windows Sockets, RPC for Windows API and WinSNMP. Built-in SOCKS support allows the software developer to build firewall security directly into their applications.

"Unlike other SDKs, the OnNet SDK includes both the tools and the drivers needed most to build enterprise applications for the Internet," according to Robert Weaver, beta user of OnNet SDK and a senior technical support analyst for Sybase, Inc. "The OnNet SDK is a robust product which enabled me to connect to the Internet without incident. I was up and running in no time at all."

OnNet SDK, and its newly upgraded DOS-based companion, PC/TCP SDK, support industry standard APIs and enterprise application development. Both products provide for simplified porting of applications across disparate operating systems and TCP/IP implementations.

The 32-bit libraries in OnNet SDK ease migration to 32-bit environments including Windows 95 and Windows NT. The 32-bit libraries include SOCKS.DLL, Windows Sockets DLL and RPC for Windows. Software developers can use OnNet SDK's high level programming interface to incorporate file transfer, terminal emulation and TRAC scripting language into their customized applications. The interface will allow enterprise development to take on advanced functionality by using the FTP and Telnet APIs for Windows Sockets, WCOMAPI Serial API and Visual Basic Custom Control for Windows Sockets.

Cross Platform Support for all Windows Environments

OnNet SDK's cross-platform Windows support provides an effective translation of the developed applications over disparate operating systems such as Windows 3.1 and Windows 95. "Our 32-bit SDK allows software developers to reap the enormous benefits of the 32-bit environments of Windows 95 and Windows NT," said Pam Campagna, director of product marketing with FTP Software. "Development across all major Windows platforms will increase both the performance of the developed applications and productivity of the users."

Sample Programs, Debugging Tools and Advanced Kernel Shorten Development Process

OnNet SDK provides a starting point for application development with a comprehensive set of working sample programs and debugging tools, such as the inclusion of an IP Trace Packet sniffer, retriever and debug version of Winsock which allow a simplification of the development process. New applications will possess added value through the use of dial-on-demand, and tools that report on network configuration, hops and network/serial line activity. OnNet SDK's 32-bit VxD kernel and network applications include a configure application, dialer (SLIP, PPP, ISDN), statistics and ping. Searchable on-line documentation enables fast inquiries and custom information retrieval.

PC/TCP SDK for DOS TCP/IP Applications

FTP Software's PC/TCP SDK for DOS also includes comprehensive application libraries and sample source code to save time during the development process. Extensive sample source code includes configuration, DNS, FTP, RPC, SNMP, SOCKS library and telnet. System calls provide close control over the network stack.

PC/TCP SDK for DOS also includes a TSR kernel and network applications such as SLIP/PPP, dialer and ping to simplify the building of network functionality into new or legacy systems. Comprehensive reporting on each call between the TCP/IP kernel and the network application is made possible through the inclusion of debugging tools such as Tracer2, Netlib trace library and sockets trace library.

Pricing and Availability

The OnNet SDK for Windows Version 4.0 is available immediately with a single user list price of $495. The PC/TCP SDK Version 3.2 for DOS is also available immediately with a single user list price of $400.
