HDS Skyline Series, World's Fastest Mainframes, Cited as one of 1995's "Most Important Products"

Business Wire, Dec 14, 1995

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 14, 1995--Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) today announced that its industry-leading Skyline Series mainframe processors have won formal recognition by InformationWeek magazine as one of "The Most Important Products of 1995."

InformationWeek notes in its December 18 issue that "Model 82, Hitachi's high-end, eight-way mainframe, delivers 780 MIPS (millions of instructions per second), a 70% capacity increase over IBM's 9021-9X2. And it needs less than 40% of the space and less than 45% of the electrical power."

Introduced on April 10, 1995, Skyline ranks as the world's fastest commercial mainframe with each uniprocessor running at 124 MIPS. Sales have been so brisk since shipments began in November that the available supply is tight well into 1996.

"The HDS Skyline has already generated a considerable number of orders from some of the world's largest companies," said John Staedke, HDS president and CEO. "Its extraordinary speed and exceptional environmental efficiency have made our newest processor very popular very quickly."

InformationWeek, published by CMP Publications, Inc. of Manhassett, New York, is a leading computer industry weekly for information systems managers and chief information officers and has a circulation of nearly 300,000 readers.
