Forest product industry veteran to head Pope Resources

POULSBO, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 21, 1995--Gary F. Tucker, a 35-year veteran of the forest products industry, has been elected to the board of directors and named president and CEO of Pope Resources, succeeding George Folquet who is retiring at the end of this year.

Tucker's appointment takes effect Jan. 1, 1996.

Tucker comes to Pope Resources from Trees Inc., a Washington, D.C.-based consulting company he has headed since mid-1989. From 1990-93, Trees Inc. contracted to direct all of the operations of the Hancock Timber Resource Group, a separate unit of John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Co., with headquarters in Boston.

It successfully developed diversified pension fund portfolios through the acquisition and management of timber and timberlands.

From 1984-1990, he served as vice president, resources, at Plum Creek Timber Co. Inc. in Seattle. He was responsible for forest resource management of 1.5 million acres of owned timberland in Montana, Idaho, Washington and Oregon; raw materials procurement from all non-owned sources; and for the initiation and administration of the company's public relations and government affairs programs.

Tucker's career also includes executive positions with Southwest Forest Industries, Hoerner Waldorf Corp. and the Intermountain Co. He has also held directorships and served on the executive committees of numerous industry and trade groups, including the Washington Forest Protection Association.

He holds a B.S. degree from Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Mich.

Poulsbo-based Pope Resources is a Delaware Limited Partnership which owns and manages 78,000 acres of timberland and development property in the Puget Sound area of Washington state.
