APOLLO SELECTS AT&T FRAME RELAY TO IMPLEMENT DATA NETWORK THAT LINKS TRAVEL AGENCIES ACROSS U.S
Business Wire, Dec 5, 1995
BASKING RIDGE, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 5, 1995--AT&T announced that Apollo Travel Services will use AT&T's InterSpan Frame Relay Service as part of a major initiative to distribute Apollo computer reservation system data to its 15,000 travel agencylocations located throughout the U.S. Together with Apollo's internally developed Internet Protocol Concentrator, AT&T's service will dramatically enhance the company's ability to manage its networks on a TCP/IP network platform.
The new TCP/IP network protocol will improve computer response times and facilitate the use of value-added services including e-mail, Internet access, and peer-to-peer communications among the Apollo agencies.
"The flexibility and reliability of AT&T's frame relay service enables us to continue the open-system product trend we started years ago," said Tom O'Key, vice president and CIO for Apollo Travel Services. "We can change to a TCP/IP solution with the confidence that we will continue to provide our customers with the best possible service."
The new Apollo network establishes an end-to-end TCP/IP connection from each agency workstation over AT&T's network to the Apollo center enabling a true client-server interaction between travel agency workstations and Apollo's database and readily interconnecting with other corporate networks. This increases the overall flexibility of the system to both Apollo and its users.
"We chose AT&T's frame relay service as part of a major strategy initiative to give customers the complete flexibility they need to compete in today's challenging marketplace," added O'Key.
Apollo Travel Services is dedicated to providing travel agencies with advanced products and services, including Apollo, the open-system technology leader offering on-line access to over 550 airlines, 33,000 hotel properties and 50 car rental companies as well as rail, cruise and tour products. Apollo Travel Services markets Apollo in the U.S., Mexico and the Caribbean, is owned by United Airlines, USAir and Air Canada, and is an exclusive distributor for Galileo International, the first truly global CRS.
AT&T's InterSpan(r) Frame Relay service is part of the InterSpan family of data services that includes Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), and the Information Access Service (IAS). For more detailed information on these or other data communications services, customers may call 1-800-248-3632.
