Interactive games developed by SingleTrac take top industry honors; "Twisted Metal" named Game of the Year

Business Wire, Dec 7, 1995

SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 7, 1995--SingleTrac Entertainment Technologies' "Twisted Metal" is Game of the Year across all platforms.

That's according to the 1996 Video Game Buyer's Guide from the editors of EGM!, one of the industry's leading video game magazines.

Twisted Metal delivers high action and adventure with a futuristic demolition driving and combat experience. According to the editors of the EGM! Buyer's Guide, "Twisted Metal is simply the best fun we have had in a long time...it can be played over and over."

"The Game of the Year award confirms what we believed from the outset," said Mike Ryder, president of SingleTrac. "Our strong background in graphics technology, combined with an incredibly creative and talented development team, sets the pace for next-generation interactive entertainment."

Twisted Metal also won in the Sony PlayStation(TM) Game of the Year category, only narrowly defeating another title developed by SingleTrac, "WarHawk," featuring arcade-style, air-to-air and air-to-ground combat in fantastic locations. Both Twisted Metal and WarHawk offer players compelling 3-D environments, with high-quality, CD-audio soundtracks that set the pace for each location.

Game Players, another leading video game trade magazine, also recognized games developed by SingleTrac in its holiday Mega Buyer's Guide, naming WarHawk for Best Flight Sim and Twisted Metal for Best Original Soundtrack. Editors called WarHawk fun to the last drop. "Even after the initial 'oooh's and 'ahhh's have worn off, you'll still be enthralled by the game's rich depth of play."

As for Twisted Metal, Game Players' editors suggested readers may just want to listen to it on their audio CD players, "...Twisted Metal's soundtrack is a thing of pure musical genius."

The games premiered at E3, the Electronic Entertainment Expo, in Los Angeles last spring and became available this month at retail stores nationwide.

While SingleTrac's entry to the market has been successful on the PlayStation, the company's plans for the future include the Nintendo Ultra-64, Sega Saturn and Microsoft Windows 95.

According to Todd Kelly, chief financial officer, "SingleTrac's evolution as an entertainment provider will be evident as we move toward the publisher role and take advantage of opportunities in the out-of-home market. Our strategic relationships in distribution and technology will accelerate our growth and leverage our strengths."

SingleTrac Entertainment Technologies Inc., based in Salt Lake City, develops next-generation interactive entertainment software that exploits the emerging 3-D capability of hardware platforms in consumer markets, both in- and out-of-home. -0-
