Raytheon to supply air traffic control primary radars to Switzerland
Business Wire, Dec 7, 1995
WATERLOO, Ont.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 7, 1995--The Swiss Air Navigation Services Limited (swisscontrol) has awarded a $5.5 million contract to Raytheon Electronic Systems' subsidiary in Canada, Raytheon Canada Limited, Waterloo, Ontario for two air traffic control primary radars.
Raytheon was selected by swisscontrol for its technical superiority and affordable systems. Other competitors were: Westinghouse, Thomson-CSF, and Alenia.
The contract calls for Raytheon to provide two ASR10SS primary radars for the Zurich and Geneva airports. These are Raytheon's latest generation air cooled, all solid-state primary surveillance radars. The contract includes the production, installation, and testing of the complete system. It is scheduled to become operational in mid-1997.
"This is a very important strategic win for us. It's Raytheon Canada's first win in Europe against stiff international competition," said Richard P. Gaffney, President of Raytheon Canada. "The ASR10SS has high reliability, superior detection, and long-term life cycle benefits. These factors convinced swisscontrol to select us. Raytheon has also sold and delivered more solid-state air-cooled ATC radars than all combined worldwide competitors. Twenty seven solid-state radars are installed worldwide and an additional 30 radars are under production."
Mr. Gaffney added that Raytheon is a major supplier of sophisticated ATC systems worldwide. One important step in becoming an international supplier is the recent certification of Raytheon Canada to ISO 9001 standards.
Raytheon Canada is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Raytheon Company. Raytheon headquartered in Lexington, Mass., a $12 billion international, high technology company which operates in four businesses: commercial and defense electronics, engineering and construction, aircraft, and major appliances.
