Top Banks Select IXI Panorama for Trading Floors; Citibank, Merrill Lynch, Nomura and others add virtual space to computer desktops
Business Wire, Feb 20, 1995
SANTA CRUZ, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 20, 1995--IXI Corp., a subsidiary of The Santa Cruz Operation Inc. (NASDAQ:SCOC), today announced recent sales of its IXI Panorama virtual workspace manager software to five of the world's top banks.
Bank of Boston, Citibank, Chemical Bank, Merrill Lynch, all in the United States and Nomura in London, are using the software to reduce the number of monitors on traders' desks and at the same time increase the flow of data so vital to traders. IXI Panorama allows traders to have many more active computer screens and windows than are displayed at any given time, enabling traders to flick immediately from one data feed to another depending on their need of the moment.
"Traders have to manage huge volumes of information and respond to status changes instantaneously," said Randall Brem, General Manager of IXI Americas. "IXI Panorama enables them to be more productive by delivering immediate access to a much wider array of data in a way that's very easy to manage."
According to Judi Albertson-Zirk, a Vice President in Capital Markets Technology Support at Citibank, "Our users are traders and salespeople who need immediate access to much more than one or two screens of information at any given time. IXI Panorama enabled a number of our trading businesses to smoothly integrate applications and pre-set screens, creating a highly productive data-rich environment."
Nomura Research Institute Europe is currently deploying IXI Panorama at its London headquarters and is planning to expand this to other European financial centers. "We're now going live with IXI Panorama onto trading floors and various departments around the bank and plan to have 400 users up and running with the product by the end of the year," said Stephen Elkes, Director, Information Systems at Nomura Research Institute Europe. "We chose IXI Panorama because it was fully supported and, being a generic Motif product, we know that it is fully interoperable with other Motif applications on the trading systems."
The number of licenses at each bank range from 50 at Merrill Lynch, to 400 at Nomura.
In addition to IXI Panorama, IXI also develops and markets other UNIX desktop products including Eye2eye, a newly introduced Windows Friendly desktop environment; IXI Premier Motif, the cross-platform, commercial version of this standard GUI software; and X.desktop, the leading graphical desktop manager for UNIX.
IXI is a cross-platform-oriented business of The Santa Cruz Operation Inc., with corporate offices in Cambridge, England; California; and Japan.
