Former Pa. utility executive G.D. Caliendo joins O&R as new general counsel

PEARL RIVER, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 21, 1995--Orange and Rockland Utilities Inc. today named a former Pennsylvania utility company executive, G.D. Caliendo, as O&R's new vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary.
Caliendo, 54, a Brooklyn native who joined Pennsylvania Power & Light Co. in 1968, worked his way up from a staff attorney job, and up through a number of executive posts to become his utility's chief legal officer in 1989.
O&R vice chairman and CEO D. Louis Peoples said, "Jerry Caliendo brings a depth of understanding about the utility industry and a breadth of experience with its legal challenges that are virtually unmatched in the field. His intellect, talent and vitality make him a superb addition to our new O&R team."
As senior vice president, general counsel and secretary at PP&L, Caliendo was responsible for all legal and regulatory matters affecting the company. He also administered the firm's Standards of Integrity, served as corporate compliance officer, and managed the corporate communications and corporate security departments.
Among his other accomplishments were the development of a series of successful cost reduction programs, the creation of business growth and expansion measures and the introduction of competitive initiatives to capitalize on the changing marketplace.
Before joining PP&L, Caliendo served two stints as an attorney at the Federal Communications Commission, and a brief time in private practice, in Washington D.C. He earned a B.A. in History from New York University in 1962 and a J.D. from Fordham University Law School in 1965.
Caliendo replaces Philip P. Steptoe who had served as acting vice president and general counsel since last October. Steptoe returns to Chicago where is a partner in Sidley & Austin, whose practice primarily involves regulated electric utilities, telecommunications companies and financial litigation.
PP&L is a $3.0 billion, investor-owned electric utility serving over one million customers in central eastern Pennsylvania.
O&R is an investor-owned electric and gas utility with annual revenues exceeding $1 billion, serving 256,897 electric customers and 108,464 gas customers. O&R and its subsidiaries, Rockland Electric Co. and Pike County Light & Power Co., serve portions of southeastern New York State, northern New Jersey and northeastern Pennsylvania.
