Long John Silver's Signs Exclusive Canadian Multi-Unit Franchise Agreement For Saskatchewan

Business Wire, Feb 23, 1995

LEXINGTON, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--February 23, 1995--Long John Silver's Restaurants Inc. has signed a multi-unit franchise agreement with Silver's of Saskatchewan Inc. to develop franchise restaurants in the province of Saskatchewan during the next three years.

According to Marc Schwegman, vice president, international franchising for the seafood chain, the first units will be built in Regina, with additional sites under consideration in Moosejaw and Saskatoon.

"The Saskatchewan agreement," Schwegman said, "signals a more aggressive focus for Long John Silver's franchise development. As North America's largest quick-service seafood restaurant chain, we're planning to expand aggressively westward across Canada, beginning with this multi-unit franchise agreement for development in Saskatchewan."

Encouraged by consecutive records for franchised new store opening sales, Long John Silver's wants to expand its base in several international markets. Just last month the seafood chain announced a multi-unit franchise agreement to develop restaurants in Thailand. The chain already operates in Saudi Arabia and Singapore.

There are 1,435 franchise and company-owned Long John Silver's in 38 U.S. states, Canada, Saudi Arabia and Singapore. The chain has had a presence in Canada since the late 1970's when it opened its first restaurant in Western Ontario. Today there are five restaurants in Cambridge, Guelph, Kitchener, Stratford and London, Ont.
