TeleVideo Launches New Line of Graphics Accelerators

Business Wire, Feb 6, 1995

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 6, 1995--TeleVideo Multimedia (NASDAQ:TELV) Monday announced a new family of graphics accelerators for Windows-based personal computers.

The new teleGraphics FX 32 and teleGraphics FX 64 are among the first products to incorporate the new ARK Logic graphics accelerators and surpass competitive products in both performance and value. These 32- and 64-bit boards are designed to increase productivity for general business applications, graphic design, desktop publishing and color image editing at an affordable price.

In addition, all TeleVideo products include a full three-year warranty, unlimited toll-free technical support during business hours, and a 24-hour BBS for on-line information.

teleGraphics FX 32 and FX 64 take advantage of the latest manufacturing and engineering designs, and are among the lowest part-count graphics boards available, making the teleGraphics family among the most reliable designs in the industry. As an example, the FX 64 has only three chips in its design, in addition to a bank of DRAM chips.

teleGraphics Family

The teleGraphics FX 32 provides 32-bit acceleration through the ARK 1000PV graphics processor. The FX 32 features refresh rates up to 90 Hz at 640 x 480 resolution with 16 million colors (24-bit) and a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024 with 256 colors (8-bit).

The teleGraphics FX 64 features the 64-bit ARK 2000PV coprocessor and supports resolutions of up to 1600 x 1200 with 65,536 colors (16-bit color) and can display 16.7 million colors (24-bit) at resolutions up to 800 x 600 at a refresh rate of 90 Hz. Both the FX 32 and the FX 64 are available for VL and PCI bus systems.

Drivers are provided for all the popular OS and application programs, including Windows, Windows NT, OS/2, AutoCAD, 3D Studio and others. The teleGraphics family is fully compliant with VESA Display Power Management Support (DPMS), supports VESA DDC for Plug and Play, and also support the VESA Advanced Feature Connector (VAFC).

Analyst/Management Quotes

"We're impressed with the breadth of the product line and the ambitious introduction schedule in getting these graphics products into the channel," said Fred Dunn, vice president of Jon Peddie Associates, a leading analyst firm covering the graphics board and multimedia IC market.

"Fast graphics are not an option for today's systems," said Isaac Levanon, executive vice president for TeleVideo Multimedia. "Our teleGraphics products are designed to provide excellent performance to cost-conscious users who are not willing to compromise the integrity of their computer's performance.

"TeleVideo's goal is to readjust people's expectations of what are high-performance graphics in this price category and we anticipate strong interest from the OEM and retail channel for the entire teleGraphics line.

The toll-free technical support we are offering is also a direct market indicator that we are serious about customer service and in aggressively pursuing market share."

ARK Graphics Accelerators

TeleVideo's teleGraphics series are among the first to incorporate ARK Logic's new ARK 1000PV and ARK 2000PV accelerator chips. The ARK Logic graphics accelerators support the most widely used graphics functions, including BitBlt, line draw, pattern-blt, color expansion, and raster operations.

The ARK 1000PV utilizes an efficient 32-bit interface, while the ARK 2000PV offers a true 64-bit interface for unmatched performance at 32-bit prices. The ARK chips feature a super pipelined drawing engine and an 80 MHz clock speed (76 MHz for the FX 32), and boost screen drawing speed well beyond the capabilities of traditional DRAM-based accelerators.
