TEWKSBURY, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 10, 1995--Avid Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: AVID) announced today that it has been awarded a 1994 "Scientific and Engineering Achievement Award" from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for its Film Composer digital nonlinear film editing system.

The award, to be presented at a Beverly Hills ceremony on March 4, applauds Avid's development and engineering achievements and recognizes the Avid Film Composer's outstanding contributions to the motion picture industry.

"This affirmation by the Academy of Motion Picture Television Arts and Sciences confirms the revolutionizing impact Film Composer has had on the art of film editing and the level of respect this system has achieved among the entire film community," said Curt Rawley, Avid's president and CEO, "We are truly honored to receive this prestigious award."

The award will be formally presented to William Warner (concept) and to the following Avid representatives: Eric Peters, vice president of technology (system architecture); Patrick O'Connor, principal software engineer; Joe Rice, senior principal software engineer; Thomas Ohanian, chief system designer; Michael Phillips, Film Composer system designer. Avid's latest industry accolade joins the company's Emmy Awards earned previously from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (Los Angeles, September 1993) for engineering and development of the Media Composer and from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (New York, October 1993) for the development of nonlinear editing systems for digital images and sounds.
