Business Wire, Jan 23, 1995

ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 23, 1995--Sun Microsystems Computer Company (SMCC) has begun including Lotus Notes at no charge with a wide range of SPARC servers, the company announced Monday.

Sun is showcasing Notes and Sun network computing technology this week at Lotusphere '95, the annual Lotus worldwide technology business conference. The de facto standard for collaborative workgroup computing, Notes is an ideal application for Sun's best-selling line of enterprise network servers, which deliver high performance at a low cost.

Sun also announced that it has registered more than 150 global system integrators, resellers and developers for the Sun Partners in Notes (SPIN) program. Charter members include Access Graphics, EDS and Merisel. Other SPIN partners are Universal Data Consultants, Gateway Computer Associates, Hayes Computer Systems and Diamond Micro Solutions. SPIN partners are certified in the development and sale of Lotus Notes and/or Sun SPARC/Solaris platforms.

"Large corporate enterprises deploying workgroup applications see dramatic increases in productivity," said Mark Tolliver, vice president of strategic business development at SMCC. "Sun's technology applied to Lotus Notes significantly enhances that capability."

"The Solaris implementation of the IPX/SPX network protocol gives Notes users the unique ability to integrate information across a business, ranging from enterprise servers to Novell Netware networks," said Jeff Papows, vice president of the Communications Products Group at Lotus.

SPIN: partnership for the future

The SPIN program helps Sun partners take advantage of the demand for workgroup applications on open client-server systems. With this program SPIN participants get early access to new technologies so they can develop value-added solutions immediately. SPIN offers training, joint sales and marketing, worldwide symposiums, promotions and relationship activities.
