HP Announces Tape Backup Software for OS 2

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 3, 1995-- Hewlett-Packard Company today announced a new addition to its family of tape backup software programs. The product, Colorado Backup for OS/2, from HP's Colorado Memory Systems division, provides fast, reliable backup for OS/2 users. It is compatible with the popular Jumbo and Trakker 120, 250 and 350 tape backup systems, the company's internal and external parallel-port drives, which conform to QIC-40 and QIC-80 industry standards.

"With the introduction of OS/2 3.0 Warp, we see a rapidly growing market in high-performance, mission-critical environments, where users are sensitive to the need for backup. This program offers a powerful, yet affordable backup solution with features that make data protection easy for the enterprise environment as well as for stand-alone installations."
Colorado Backup for OS/2 is a true 32-bit application that takes full advantage of OS/2's multitasking capabilities. It gives users a familiar OS/2 interface with pull-down menus and point-and-click file selection. Support of bidirectional data exchange between DOS, Windows(tm) and OS/2 allows easy migration of DOS and Windows files to and from OS/2 systems.
The program handles extended attributes, long file names, INI files, system files and the OS/2 desktop. It also backs up FAT, HPFS and stacked FAT partitions. A two-disk recovery program gives users quick recovery from a system crash without requiring that they reinstall the OS/2 operating system. An easy file-set recording capability provides automated, unattended backups. Other features include reliable data compression, password protection and optional command-line operation.
In addition to individual workstation backup, Colorado Backup for OS/2 provides server-based backup and restore for OS/2 networking environments, such as Microsoft(R) LAN Manager and IBM LAN Server.

Colorado Backup for OS/2 is $69.95 and is available now. Customers who have previous versions of OS/2 backup software for Jumbo systems can upgrade to Colorado Backup for OS/2 for $29.95.

It manufactures a wide range of tape backup solutions and accessories, including Jumbo, Trakker, PowerTape and PowerDAT backup systems. According to Dataquest reports, Colorado was the clear market leader in minicartridge drives in 1994.
