Business Wire, Jan 30, 1995
HOPKINTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 30, 1995--EMC Corp. today announced shipment of its 1,000th Symmetrix 5500 Integrated Cached Disk Array (ICDA) subsystem, the highest performing and highest capacity disk array in the IBM mainframe market.
The 1,000th Symmetrix 5500 was delivered to R.L. Polk & Co. of Taylor, Mich., a leading marketing information services firm whose success depends on rapid access to large amounts of information. Polk recently installed two Symmetrix 5500-9 subsystems which store the mission-critical information in Polk's consumer and product market information databases.
"The Symmetrix 5500 quickly set the industry standard for performance, capacity and availability following its introduction in 1993," said Michael C. Ruettgers, EMC president and CEO. "Leading companies such as Polk, which need to have constant access to data and the ability to rapidly store and retrieve large amounts of information, are using the Symmetrix 5500 to gain a competitive edge. No other disk array in the mainframe market can deliver the level of performance and capacity that the 5500 does. Reaching the thousand mark on this high-end subsystem is truly a milestone."
The Symmetrix 5500 Series is the flagship of EMC's product line, providing customers with high performance and a wide range of capacity and user selectable features including ESCON connectivity, RAID protection, and the recently introduced Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF). EMC's unique MOSAIC:2000 architecture provides time-to-market leadership by allowing the incorporation of the latest technology into current product lines, protecting customer investment in Symmetrix.
EMC Corp. is traded on the NYSE under the symbol EMC. EMC is a world leader in the field of information storage and retrieval technology.
