Elliott Bay Books Welcomes Bunji the Frog and Her Live Pot-Bellied Pig
Business Wire, Jan 31, 1995
SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 31, 1995--The Elliott Bay Book Co., well known for hosting author appearances, story hours, and activity based programs for children, will turn its Pioneer Square location into a barnyard on Feb. 11 when it welcomes Bunji the Frog and her pot-bellied pig to show off Headbone Interactive's new CD-ROM, AlphaBonk Farm.
CD-ROMs are just beginning to turn up at traditional bookstores, and Elliott Bay is one of those who've already embraced the technology. The bookstore will host its first ever CD-ROM viewing beginning at 1 p.m. The software will be demonstrated as Bunji the Frog (star of Elliott Bay's best CD-ROM seller, AlphaBonk farm) and a live pot-bellied pig entertain and help make personal computers a little more "personal."
"This type of event is exciting and groundbreaking for us," said Michael Weaver, systems manager for Elliott Bay, "because it gives us an opportunity to get real time feedback from our customers." Jeff Jorgensen, CD-ROM buyer for Elliott Bay went on to say, "We're committed to serving our customers' needs, whether they be interested in buying books, audio, or CD-ROMs. We're looking forward to a successful event Saturday afternoon."
The show (beginning at 1 and again at 3) will be held in the children's book department toward the rear of the store. Bunji the Frog will welcome kids to the viewing, Headbone Interactive president, Susan Lammers will demonstrate AlphaBonk Farm, and a live pot-bellied pig, the special guest, will perform from her repertoire of more than 70 tricks. Headbone will also be previewing their next title to be released in April entitled "What the Heck will Elroy Do Next?" for 7-12 year olds (AlphaBonk Farm is targeted toward the younger child, ages 4 and up).
"We're expecting our wacky farm show to demystify computers and make them even more fun for kids and parents," said Lammers. "We believe in making our multimedia software available in emerging channels such as book stores. Elliott Bay is a perfect example of a store where parents already routinely shop for their kids."
Elliott Bay Book Co. represents one of the many independent and chain bookstores offering CD-ROMs as part of their non-book inventories, according to Pacific Pipeline, a local book and CD-ROM distributor based in South Seattle.
