Peugeot And Citroen Manufacturer Selects Wang Imaging Software To Drive Greater Productivity
Business Wire, July 10, 1995
BILLERICA, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 10, 1995--Wang (NASDAQ:WANG) today announced that The PSA Group of Paris, France, the manufacturer of Peugeot and Citroen brand cars, has purchased $120,000 in imaging software and services from Wang. The company is initially using Wang's software for a pilot project that will integrate document imaging into its technical design and cataloging applications. This month, The PSA Group will implement Wang's OPEN/image software on 400 Windows-based workstations spread across locations throughout France and connected to IBM mainframes throughout the network. By 1997, The PSA Group -- which employs 155,000 people worldwide with $31 billion in revenue annually -- intends to extend the use of OPEN/image to 4,000 workstations.
Wang's OPEN/image software will be used by The PSA Group's Marketing & Research department to enhance the data description and visualization of vehicle part characteristics (i.e. wings, dashboard, front and rear seats, spoiler). Previously users were only able to see typed data on the screen. With the new Wang software, they will see more detailed information and measures, and be able to manipulate a variety of images, including pictures, plans, drafts, and drawings. The software will provide users with transparent and immediate access to all technical images.
"We were looking for an open, multi-platform software solution that would allow us to easily and effectively image-enable our existing design applications," said the director of New Technologies of The PSA Group. "Wang's OPEN/image software offered all of these benefits, while Wang provided the integration expertise and service strength you would expect from a global company."
"Manufacturing functions in major industries such as automotive, handle volumes of technical data that need to be accessed quickly and easily," said Don Casey, president of Wang. "We have seen an increasing number of these organizations turn to imaging to help them better manage their information, to increase productivity and speed time-to-market. The interoperability strengths of OPEN/image and its support for imaging standards will enable The PSA Group to evolve its information processing systems to fit its short- and long-term strategies."
