Compaq Bolsters Most Successful Desktop Lines With New Pentium Models
Business Wire, July 10, 1995
HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 10, 1995--Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ) today added new models to its popular ProLinea and Deskpro business desktop personal computer line based on the Intel 120-megahertz Pentium microprocessor.
Models of the new Compaq ProLinea 5120 and Compaq Deskpro 5120, available today, range in price from $2,599 to $3,599(a). Including today's announcement, Compaq has introduced 51 new Pentium-based business desktop products this year alone.
The Compaq ProLinea family is designed for more value-oriented customers who may not require the network-ready features of the Compaq Deskpro. The new 120-megahertz Pentium models include 16 megabytes of RAM, a 256 Kbyte secondary cache, a one-gigabyte IDE hard drive, TriFlex/PCI, ISA and PCI local bus architectures, and high performance graphics.
Through its unique Intelligent Manageability and integrated network features, the Compaq Deskpro series is specifically designed to lower costs associated with a networked environment. All Compaq Deskpro models are easy to install and manage on the network. They include industry leading features such as asset management, fault management, security management, an integrated 32-bit PCI Ethernet network controller, pre-installed network drivers, and a network setup utility.
In June, Compaq added new 120-MHz Pentium models to the flagship Compaq Deskpro XL family. Earlier in March, Compaq announced the ProLiant 1500 5/120, one of the first high availability servers to use the 120-MHz Pentium processor.
Later this year, Compaq plans to introduce a variety of new desktop and server products based on the recently announced 133-MHz Pentium processor.
