TENERA updates Rocky Flats contract award announcement

Business Wire, July 17, 1995

BERKELEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 17, 1995--TENERA, Inc. (AMEX: TNR)("TENERA") disclosed today that it has finalized and executed the largest contract to be awarded to TENERA in several years.

As previously announced on April 18, 1995, the Kaiser-Hill Company and its partners, through the competitive bid process, won the Performance Based Integrating Management Contract to manage the deactivation and clean up of the Department of Energy's Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site near Denver, Colorado. TENERA was then initially engaged through June 30, 1995 (the "Transition Period") in an active role which assisted the Kaiser-Hill Company in preparation for acceptance of its Integrating Management responsibility on July 1, 1995. During the Transition Period, Kaiser-Hill Company negotiated and executed a significant multi-year contract ("Contract") with TENERA to secure its participation in several key management and technical positions at Rocky Flats.

Under terms of the cost-plus incentive fee Contract, TENERA will provide a minimum of 130 professional staff (with an estimated revenue exceeding $16 million) in various key positions at the Site during the first year of a two year base period. A recruiting process was concluded in June which resulted in the hiring of over 100 individuals by TENERA at the Site to help fulfill these contractual obligations. The total period of performance includes options to extend the contract, upon the request of Kaiser-Hill, through June 30, 2000. TENERA also established a wholly-owned limited liability company, TENERA Rocky Flats, LLC, to manage the operations and completion of its assigned tasks and responsibilities at the Site.

Commenting on the Contract award, Bradley Geddes, TENERA's President and Chief Operating Officer, noted: "We are very pleased with the arduous and diligent efforts of our Government Services Group which have won TENERA the role as a key participant on the Rocky Flats Integrating Management Team. Their efforts were led by Robert McKay, General Manager of TENERA Rocky Flats, LLC, who we are happy to announce was newly appointed by Kaiser-Hill as the Director of Rocky Flats Standards Integration Group for the Site. It is our expectation that this Contract at Rocky Flats will provide vast opportunities to leverage the skills and capabilities we have been developing for years."

In additional commentary, Robert McKay said: "Now that our mission at Rocky Flats has been finalized, we can begin providing leadership to establish a standards-based work culture at the Site, as well as bring our significant nuclear safety, technical, regulatory, and management experience to the overall efforts underway."

"TENERA has been a participant with Kaiser-Hill since the beginning and their contributions were important to our being selected by the Department of Energy," said George O'Brien, Kaiser-Hill President and CEO. "We look forward to a long and rewarding relationship with TENERA as we undertake this challenge."

TENERA, Inc. provides integrated management, engineering, and software solutions for utilities, the government, and large transportation corporations through offices in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Maryland, New York, Tennessee, and Washington.
