UB Networks Announces Integration of its Leading Network Management Platform Within Computer Associates' New Enterprise Management Strategy; NetDirector to Become Network Management Platform Within CA-Unicenter/TNG
Business Wire, July 17, 1995
NEW ORLEANS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 17, 1995--CA World--UB Networks today announced that its leading network management technology, NetDirector, has been chosen by Computer Associates as the network management component of its new enterprise management strategy. CA-Unicenter/TNG (The Next Generation) will combine systems management and network management into one vendor-independent enterprise management platform. UB Networks will be reselling CA-Unicenter and will be developing value-add applications for CA-Unicenter that will include VNA, RMON, troubleshooting tools, and a 3D-interface to manage objects in an enterprise management environment.
"Today, systems management and network management are completely separate," said Roel Pieper, UB Networks' CEO. "From a user perspective, having an integrated management platform is a must. Today, if users have networking equipment from four different vendors, they have four different management stations. UB and CA have solved this problem by providing an integrated, vendor-independent enterprise management solution that combines UB's leading-edge network management technology with CA's strong multi-vendor systems management solution."
"UB sees the convergence of systems and network management around an independent set of platforms as critical to the success of enterprise networks," said Marius Abel, senior vice president and general manager Network Products and Applications Division. "We are pleased by this partnership with CA because we believe CA is best positioned to offer an independent open systems approach."
UB forsees management coalescing into two areas: enterprise management and device management. UB is uniquely able to provide products in both areas. In addition to providing its customers with CA-Unicenter, UB will also continue to provide device management with its Access/EMPower product. Access/EMPower brings unprecedented management capabilities to the device level while controlling and managing these capabilities from the management platform.
UB Networks is a leading global supplier of network hardware and software products, and is a pioneer in the area of distributed network management solutions. The company offers a full line of enterprise wide networking products including the Geo family of enterprise, workgroup and ATM products. The company provides network management and application products and comprehensive integration services.
