CA LAUNCHES NEXT GENERATION OF ENTERPRISE COMPUTING MANAGEMENT WITH CA-UNICENTER/TNG; Unprecedented Business-Process Views Of Enterprise IT Resources —Systems, Networks, Databases And Applications; End-To-End Management Using Revolutionary Real World Interface
Business Wire, July 17, 1995
NEW ORLEANS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 17, 1995--Computer Associates today announced a milestone in enterprise computing management: a new fully object-oriented solution that enables organizations to visualize and control their entire information technology infrastructure --including applications, databases, systems and networks-- from a business perspective.
CA-Unicenter/TNG (The Next Generation), the newest release of CA's enormously successful Unicenter systems management platform, incorporates technology never before applied to IT resource management to establish a revolutionary link between an organization's IT resources and its business policies.
"Our clients tell us that technology must serve business, especially when it comes to the management of IT resources," Charles B. Wang, CA chairman and chief executive officer said at CA-World '95. "With CA-Unicenter/TNG, we are providing the first business process-driven solution for managing the entire enterprise computing environment, end-to-end."
Unprecedented Business Process Views
CA-Unicenter/TNG allows organizations to define their business policies, map these policies to particular resource management requirements, and then monitor resources for their support of specific business processes. The flexible business process views can be customized to deliver information based on specific roles, locations, resources, and any other dimensions of control.
"Although IT resources exist to support an organization's business processes, managers have never been able to monitor these resources from a business perspective," said Yogesh Gupta, CA senior vice president of product strategy. "CA-Unicenter/TNG enables organizations to formalize and enforce the business model behind their IT resources."
Industry's First End-To-End Management
To provide its revolutionary business-process view of enterprise IT resources, CA-Unicenter/TNG has accomplished another milestone in the administration of a distributed IT infrastructure --the industry's first end-to-end management of heterogeneous computing resources.
Through a combination of its object-oriented management functions, CA-Unicenter/TNG enables organizations to monitor and control all their computing resources --systems, networks, DBMSs and applications.
The world-class network management technology, NetDirector from UB Networks, forms the foundation for the CA-Unicenter/TNG network management services. UB Networks, the pioneer in network management solutions, recognizes that network management best serves the client when integrated in a complete enterprise-wide end-to-end solution.
"CA-Unicenter/TNG shatters the boundaries of traditional systems management," said Gupta. "Its true enterprise IT management not only provides a unique business window into the IT infrastructure, but also fulfills one of the most important and long-sought goals in distributed computing --control of all the IT resources critical to an organization's ability to run its business."
Revolutionary Real World Interface
To visualize the complex interactions and interdependencies of an enterprise's entire distributed environment, CA-Unicenter/TNG features a pioneering real world interface that incorporates 3-D animation and elements of virtual reality.
Offering a real world view of the enterprise, CA-Unicenter/TNG allows users to navigate through pictorial representations of their IT resources -- everything from their global network down to individual computers, databases and applications. Users can even "travel" through the interiors of specific machines.
Object-Oriented Management Environment
All CA-Unicenter/TNG functions and services --including applications management, systems, database and network management-- are provided through an object-oriented management environment. As a result, CA-Unicenter/TNG can easily be extended or customized to meet particular business requirements, and can be integrated with a wide range of third-party and client solutions.
For example, CA-Unicenter/TNG interoperates with an organization's existing management tools --such as HP's OpenView, IBM's NetView/6000, Sun Microsystems' SunNet Manager and Microsoft's SMS-- into its end-to-end enterprise IT management.
As a result, users can leverage existing technological investments while enhancing them with CA-Unicenter/TNG's business-process views and real-world interface. In addition, CA is leading the standardization of interfaces for enterprise IT management through numerous standards bodies, including the Object Management Group (OMG), X/Open, DMTF, and OSF.
