Autodesk Announces Direct AutoCAD Link to Oracle; Five New AutoCAD SQL Interface Drivers Improve Database Query Ability

Business Wire, July 19, 1995

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 19, 1995--AutoCAD Release 12 users got a boost in their analysis and reporting capabilities today with the announcement of new drivers that link objects within AutoCAD drawings directly to Oracle(R) 7 for Microsoft Windows(R) 3.1. The new AutoCAD SQL Interface (ASI) drivers are designed for users of AutoCAD Release 12 for Windows 3.1 who use AutoCAD Data Extension(R) (ADE). ADE facilitates queries within AutoCAD design drawings, combining graphical and non-graphical data. An AutoCAD Release 13 ASI driver for Oracle 7 is currently under development and will be shipped later this year.

Four other updated ASI drivers for AutoCAD Release 12 were also announced: Dbase III for both DOS and Windows 3.1, and Dbase IV for both DOS and Windows 3.1. ASI drivers are the communication links between objects within an AutoCAD drawing and records in relational databases. These links are utilized by the AutoCAD Data Extension from within AutoCAD, by the AutoCAD SQL Environment (ASE), and by numerous third-party software applications.

New documentation has been developed for the five new drivers and also for Autodesk's ASI driver for ODBC (Open Database Connectivity). This latter package explains how to best establish and utilize the ODBC database link.

Separately today, Autodesk's Data Management Market Group also announced the release of Autodesk WorkCenter(TM) Version 1.1. The new update integrates with AutoCAD Release 13 to help users access, view, redline, revise and route design drawings to increase design team productivity.

The new ASI drivers and documentation are available immediately at no charge for current AutoCAD Release 12 customers. For more information, please contact any Authorized Autodesk Dealer or call Autodesk at 800-964-6432, or fax requests to 415-507-5100.
