New Frontier Technologies Internet software allows offline search; SuperHighway Access CyberSearch is first to combine CD-ROM-based Internet catalog with Internet browser, saving users time and money
Business Wire, July 24, 1995
MEQUON, Wis.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 24, 1995--Frontier Technologies today announced the release of a unique new Internet software product for Microsoft Windows-based systems, SuperHighway Access CyberSearch(TM).
This CD-ROM product features Frontier's popular SuperHighway Access Internet browser, integrated with a huge database of Internet resources which can be searched offline, thereby reducing online charges and increasing productivity. The database is Lycos(TM), developed by Carnegie Mellon University, which is accepted as the most extensive catalog of Internet resources.
The product will be produced monthly (bi-monthly initially), and subscribers pay $6.95 per month ($3 s/h). Each CD will contain a newly compiled version of Lycos, covering over 500,000 Internet pages indexed by keyword. Users can browse offline for sites of interest and assemble a file of Internet resources using SuperHighway Access's Internet Organizer. Once connected, users can launch multiple searches at once, and be reviewing or downloading information from one site while connecting to another.
``It's now understood that one of the primary barriers to user productivity on the Internet is finding information,'' said Dr. Prakash Ambegaonkar, Frontier Technologies' president. ``The Internet's online search sites, such as Yahoo and Lycos, receive thousands of requests per day which make them slow or even impossible to access at peak times. By putting the Lycos catalog on a CD, users will be able to reliably and quickly locate the Internet resources they need before they even connect to the Net.''
The product works with the user's current Internet service provider, or new Internet users can establish an account via autoregistration with PSINet's Instant InterRamp. PSINet is offering CyberSearch users a free 7-day trial account, with the option to register permanently at the end of that time.
The product is available and will be marketed through retail channels and subscription. The current product has a September 1995 cover date with a cover price of $14.95. For information about payment plans, or to order a trial issue, call 1-800/879-0075 (outside the U.S., 1-414/571-0190).
