Business Wire, July 24, 1995

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 24, 1995--Hewlett-Packard Company today announced it will expand distribution of its new consumer PCs in leading national retail outlets, including Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, Computer City, Incredible Universe, Micro Center, Office Depot, OfficeMax and Staples.

HP has been selling its initial line of multimedia PCs through Circuit City since April. A new line of consumer PCs is expected to be available in stores starting in late August.

"Sales of HP's first consumer PCs in Circuit City have been very strong," said Harry W. (Webb) McKinney, general manager of HP's Home Products Division. "With an affordable, high-quality consumer PC line, low product-return rates and strong retail programs in place, we are well positioned to replicate that success and expand our list of retail partners."

HP's consumer multimedia PCs are being distributed throughout the United States exclusively in the retail channel. The PCs are developed and marketed by HP's Home Products Division, which was created to focus exclusively on the home consumer market. Currently, HP also distributes a host of market-leading products through U.S. retail outlets, including HP LaserJet and DeskJet printers, HP ScanJet scanners, HP OmniBook notebook PCs, HP 200LX palmtop PCs and HP calculators, and tape backup products.
