Business Wire, July 25, 1995
HOPKINTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- July 25, 1995 -- EMC Corporation, the world's leading supplier of mainframe storage solutions, today announced it will provide high-end, mainframe Integrated Cached Disk Array (ICDA) storage systems to the United States Internal Revenue Service through EMC's original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement with Unisys Corp., of Blue Bell, Penn. EMC's storage systems are a key part of a $520 million contract the Department of Treasury has signed with Unisys to provide information systems and services to IRS Computing Centers.
Unisys markets EMC's flagship Symmetrix 5500 ICDA storage systems as its USP 5500, and has been an OEM provider of a number of EMC systems since 1992. The Unisys contract with the IRS is considered the cornerstone of the multi-billion dollar Tax Systems Modernization program. Unisys will be providing the systems, software, services and support to upgrade and consolidate ten tax processing service centers into three computer centers. The result of the large scale computing and storage capacity will be dramatically improved customer service.
"EMC storage systems are ideally suited for this type of high-capacity, high-availability, transaction-intensive environment. Over the next several years, taxpayer accounts will be stored on EMC systems bearing the Unisys label," said Michael C. Ruettgers, EMC President and CEO. "This is further proof of the tremendous success EMC and Unisys have achieved as a result of our strategic partnership and we look forward to providing the disk storage component of future Unisys orders."
