REGI U.S. Inc. patent application granted on the Axial Vane Rotary device
Business Wire, July 27, 1995
COLUMBUS, Ind.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 26, 1995--Reg Technologies Inc. (VSE: RRE.V) (OTC: REGRF) and its U.S. subsidiary, REGI U.S. Inc. (OTC: RGUS), announced that the U.S. patent for the Axial Vane Rotary device and sealing system was granted on July 4, 1995.
The U.S. patent number is 5,429,084. This new engine is vastly improved over the existing Rand Cam Engine, as it eliminates the transfer chamber, rotor parts and conduits, rotor port seals, vane tip seals and cam seals. It also eliminates fuel transfer problems between the rotor and stator, and no spark plug is required after start-up.

The design incorporates eight or more vanes, resulting in 16 power impulses per revolution, vs. the original Rand Cam Engine patent that only incorporated two vanes resulting in four power impulses. The Rand Cam rotary engine is an internal combustion rotary engine which has only nine moving parts and is reported to have a power-to-weight ratio of less than one point of weight for every horsepower. Development is aimed at 1/6 the weight of the existing piston engine. The Rand Cam Engine has 16 power impulses per revolution, resulting in a smooth, vibration-free operation.
The Continuous Injection Rand Cam Diesel Engine -- New Diesel Design Doubles Power Output of Rand Cam Engine
REGI also announced that a patent application in the United States for a new design for a diesel Rand Cam Engine has been submitted as of July 3, 1995. This design uses continuous instead of intermittent pressure fuel injection. The proposed design utilizes either 12 or 16 vanes and has a single high-pressure spray nozzle in each Cam (stator) housing which operates on a continuous basis.
The new design scheme results in a Rand Cam Engine that is significantly lower in cost and complexity. It also greatly lowers the technical risk associated with the intermittent-type diesel injection fuel system. This new feature also eliminates the limitations on engine rotation speed that is currently limited by available fuel-injection technology. This improvement, coupled with the elimination of vane seals, will enable the power output of the Rand Cam Engine to be doubled by increasing RPM.
