Adax Boosts Windows NT WAN Performance with Frame Relay, T-1 and T-3 Access; RNS for NT Family First to Deliver Reliable, High-Speed WAN Access to NT Networks

BERKELEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 31, 1995--Adax, Inc., a leading developer of technology for wide area networks (WANs), today announced the first family of products designed to give Windows NT(TM) networks high-performance WAN access.
Part of the Routerless Network Solution (RNS), the RNS for NT family consists of a complete line of network interface cards and frame relay software -- including the first DS3 controller capable of T-3 speeds -- and a server-based channel bank card with advanced multicasting features.
Together these products offer the highest-performance solution for telephony, video and data transfer over NT-based WANs and the first system to deliver frame relay switching to NT servers. RNS for NT gives Windows NT networks the communications speed and reliability necessary for high transaction rate, mission-critical applications, while in many cases offering a cost-effective alternative to expensive routers, bridges and T-1 multiplexers.
The RNS family's Advanced Protocol Controllers (APCs) and related software provide NT application servers with multiprotocol frame relay access and switching, along with point-to-point protocol (PPP) access. The family also includes the Digital Circuit Exchange (DCX), the first server-based card for NT platforms capable of replacing costly external T-1 multiplexers.
Leveraging its twelve years of experience in developing high-speed data communications products for the UNIX market, Adax designed RNS for NT to provide NT-based networks with WAN communications capabilities comparable to UNIX-based networks. Fully WINSOCK compatible, RNS for NT offers superior WAN performance without taxing LAN bandwidth or significantly increasing CPU loads. By bringing the WAN directly into the NT system, RNS for NT avoids the network traffic created by T-1 data rate routers, thereby preserving LAN performance.
RNS for NT also supports emerging high-speed network standards, including Integrated Services Data Network (ISDN) and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM). "Other WAN cards may cost less initially, but when the hidden costs of increased CPU overhead and less efficient use of network bandwidth are factored in, Adax offers a more cost-effective solution over the long term."
Availability and Pricing
RNS for NT is available immediately for ISA, EISA and other popular buses. Complete systems prices, including T-1 network interface card and protocol suite are under $3000. Fractional T-3, also immediately available, is slightly more. The Digital Circuit Exchange (APC-DCX) for NT, which supports simultaneous T-1 and E-1 circuits, is immediately available for less than $3,500.
