Business Wire, June 12, 1995

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 12, 1995--Today, Mobile Software Products, a business unit of Motorola's Wireless Data Group, announced that it is shipping in the U.S. market a client-server software product which wirelessly extends Lotus(r) cc:Mail(tm) Mobile for Windows. The add-on software, called AirMobile (tm) Wireless Software for Lotus cc:Mail, enables a laptop user equipped with a wireless modem and Lotus cc:Mail Mobile to wirelessly access their corporate cc:Mail server. The product makes no changes to cc:Mail Mobile's award-winning user interface.

AirMobile Wireless for cc:Mail supports ARDIS and RAM Mobile Data, both popular U.S. wireless wide-area packet data networks. Later this year, the product will be made available in the Asia-Pacific region and Europe, and will support wireless data communications networks utilizing the Motorola DataTAC and the Ericsson Mobitex system technologies.

"The AirMobile Wireless software is a very welcome addition to Lotus' anytime, anywhere communications offerings," said Jay Gallinatti, director of marketing for Lotus cc:Mail Division. "Motorola is very pleased to provide Lotus cc:Mail Mobile U.S. users the option to work wirelessly," said Jerry Upton, director, Mobile Software Products, Wireless Data Group, Motorola. "Together with Lotus, we are delivering a truly seamless wireless communications solution."

An extension to Lotus cc:Mail Mobile, the AirMobile Wireless software enables remote users to exchange messages and files over wireless wide-area networks. The product provides the flexibility needed to support a mobile sales force, work-at-home employees, traveling executives and others who need to keep in constant contact.

AirMobile Wireless for cc:Mail product uses a message transport optimized for wireless applications. The transport provides additional capabilities to cc:Mail Mobile, including server- based filters, giving mobile users the ability to download partial messages, such as only a cover note while leaving lengthy file attachments on the server; and intelligent message delivery, which lets users have certain messages sent to them immediately without their needing to check for e-mail.

AirMobile Wireless for cc:Mail software supports the Motorola InfoTAC(tm) and the Ericsson Mobidem(tm) wireless modems. Product upgrades will also be available to support versions of existing and upcoming PCMCIA wide-area wireless modem cards, such as the IBM wireless modems for ARDIS and RAM Mobile Data, and the Motorola Personal Messenger wireless modem cards currently available in several Asia-Pacific markets.

"AirMobile Wireless software for users of Lotus cc:Mail Mobile is a key application for new and existing ARDIS network subscribers," said Dan Croft, senior vice president of Marketing Operations at ARDIS. "Wireless access to a mainstream e-mail application like cc:Mail demonstrates an exciting growth opportunity for this marketplace."

"Motorola's AirMobile software is designed specifically for the wireless data world," said Janet Boudris, senior vice president of Strategic Marketing for RAM Mobile Data. "Users of cc:Mail Mobile and AirMobile Wireless can now access their cc:Mail LAN via RAM's service. Outgoing messages and/or files are automatically sent and incoming messages are automatically received anytime from virtually anywhere. With RAM the AirMobile software will give cc:Mail Mobile end-users real time access to their cc:Mail LAN."
