MPEG video and Clip Art join Dr. CD ROM family
Business Wire, June 15, 1995
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 15, 1995--Accurate Research, Inc. is adding two new titles (2-disc sets) to the Dr. CD ROM(R) product line -- "Air Show Extravaganza" (US $49) and "ClipArt CRAZE" (US $39).
"Air Show" consists of an MPEG/AVI CD and a video CD, which plays on a CD-I player, video CD player or a computer. Each disc contains more than 30 minutes of 16 spectacular aerobatics by the F-18 Blue Angels, U.S. Navy Leap Frogs, WingWalker, Canadian Snowbirds and more.
If using an MPEG decoder, the user can view each performance in VHS-quality, full-screen, full-motion video along with stereo sound. "We want to give air show enthusiasts around the world the opportunity to experience the real thing close-up," says ARI Managing Director Eric Ho. Aside from being entertaining, the MPEG and AVI files can also be used in personal or business presentations.
Without MPEG hardware, users can watch each show in AVI format (quarter-screen). This mode provides a comprehensive control panel with features like volume, FF, Rewind, etc. The "Auto Replay" button repeats a clip without interruption.
Although "ClipArt CRAZE" does not contain any exciting video, it is equally valuable for its collection of 3,400 practical color and black and white images.
Added features in this PC and Mac-compatible title save users from toiling over thousands of unrecognizable file names or cumbersome commands. The built-in thumbnail viewer allows the user to see the actual image before deciding whether to load it. Also, if the user decides to download an image onto the hard drive, the convenient "Copy" function easily performs the task.
"These new functions were created to address the many complaints from customers about most clip art CDs on the market," says Ho.
Each file is available in BMP and PCX for the PC and TIFF for the Mac. They may also be used in desktop publishing applications, advertising, business or academic presentations.
