General Signal Elects Fairbairn, Senior Vp Of Union Pacific, To Its Board

STAMFORD, CT--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 15, 1995--General Signal Corporation announced today the election of Ursula F. Fairbairn, senior vice president, Human Resources of Union Pacific Corporation, to its Board of Directors.
Ms. Fairbairn, 52, joined Bethlehem, Pennsylvania-based Union Pacific as senior vice president of Human Resources in 1990. From 1966 to 1990, she served in key executive positions with IBM Corporation, including IBM director of Education and Management Development, and vice president, Marketing Operations for National Accounts. In addition, Ms. Fairbairn served as executive assistant to the Secretary of the Treasury as a White House Fellow from 1973 to 1974.
In making the announcement, Edmund M. Carpenter, chairman and chief executive officer of General Signal, said: "It gives me great pleasure to welcome Ms. Fairbairn to our board. Her extensive corporate experience and management development expertise will prove invaluable as General Signal pursues its long-term goals."
Ms. Fairbairn is a director of Armstrong World Industries, Inc., Menasha Corporation, and VF Corporation. She received a B.A. degree from Upsala College and a M.A.T. degree in mathematics from Harvard University. She and her husband, Bill, reside in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and have two children.
General Signal Corporation, with 1994 sales of $1.53 billion, is a leading equipment manufacturer for the process control, electrical, and industrial technology industries.
